- May 1, 2009: Congratulations to Kari Britton, winner of the Spring 2009 Student Conference Presentation Award, for his project titled, "Educating our Youth on Queer Topics: Is UIUC Truly a Community Leader?" (video); and Sonny Song, winner of the Spring 2009 Student Conference Poster Award, funded by the University Library, for his poster titled, "Underlying Reasons Behind Racially Divided Residence Halls" (picture). - April 6, 2009: A press release titled "Students Research Peers' Financial Concerns" (link) from Mary Arends-Kuenning's Fall 2008 EUI course details insights that students gained into tuition loans and textbook costs and highlights the importance of conducting ethnographic research.
- April 4, 2009: "The Promise and Practice of Campus-Based Student Ethnographic Research: The Ethnography of the University Iniative." A roundtable discussion for the Central States Anthropological Society 2009 meeting at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, with Tim Cain, Gina Hunter, Hyunhee Kim, Soo Ah Kwon, Ellen Moodie, Teresa Ramos, and Jason C. Romero.
- March 5, 2009: Two former EUI instructors have won excellence awards. Samantha Looker has won the Campus Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching by a Teaching Assistant, and John Griswold has won the Campus Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching by a member of the Instructional Staff.
- February 14, 2009: We currently are recruiting faculty to teach courses in the 2009-2011 academic years. You can find the request for proposals here: RFP 2009. Please feel free to disseminate the RFP to colleagues and any appropriate listservs of which you are a member.

- January 20, 2009: "Student Research on the University ... and in the Institutional Repository: A Case Study at Illinois." Poster presented at 2009 ELI Annual Meeting, EDUCAUSE Participation and Collaboration: Social Learning for the 21st Century Orlando, Florida January 20-22, 2009, by Merinda Hensley, Sarah L. Shreeves, and Timothy R. Cain.
- January 15, 2009: EUI Co-Director, Gina Hunter, and two undergraduate students at Illinois State University have been commissioned to conduct an ethnographic study of ISU's Milner Library, beginning Spring 2009. The ongoing project will provide information for Milner Library to use as it undertakes future renovations and updates to library and information services on the Illinois State campus.
- January 7, 2009: Gina Hunter gave a presentation titled "The Ethnography of the University: What Students Learn" at the Center for Teaching, Learning and Technology, 9th Annual University-Wide Symposium on Teaching and Learning: Teaching & Learning in a Diverse Community of Scholars, Illinois State University.
- December 1, 2008: Congratulations to Tony Greif, winner of the Fall 2008 Student Conference Presentation Award, for his project titled, "Access Your Letters: How Greek Life Contributes to Disabilities Awareness at the University" (video); and Joshua Glaser, winner of the Fall 2008 Student Conference Poster Award, funded by the University Library, for his poster titled, "University Admissions: What Do They Unveil About a School's Disability Program and About the Times?"
- May 1, 2008: Congratulations to Stephan Lane, winner of the Spring 2008 Student Conference Award, for his project titled "An Analysis of the UIUC Ku Klux Klan and the Surrounding Debates" (Rhetoric 104C, Samantha Waselus Looker).
- September 26, 2008: Gina Hunter gave a presentation titled "The Ethnography of the University Initiative - An Innovation Partnership for Engaging Undergraduate Students in Research on the University" at the Innovative Partnerships for Student Learning Conference, Sept 25-27, 2008 Illinois State University, Illinois Wesleyan University and Heartland Community College.
